Velma Phillips, 75, of Plainview, passed from this life on August 25, 2020. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Bartley Funeral Home/

Velma was born on December 21, 1944 to Noel and Greta Nelson in Galveston, Texas. She married John Phillips on November 21, 1965 in Fieldton, Texas. Velma graduated from Wayland Baptist University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1966. She majored in biology and minored in English. She worked as a substitute teach for PISD for many years. She then worked at Kmart as personnel/manager for over 10 years.

She was a long-time member of College Heights Baptist. She loved singing in the choir and taught Vacation Bible School. She also enjoyed taking trip with her husband and cross-stitching. Velma will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be dearly missed.

Velma is survived by her husband; John Phillips of Plainview, daughter; Martha Williams of Plainview, and three grandsons; Jonathan Allen Williams, Joshua Andrew Williams, and Joseph Aubrey Williams.
