Staff Sergeant Shawn Lynn Jones passed away surrounded by his loving family on May 27, 2024, in Amarillo, Texas. A Memorial Service will be at 10:00 AM Friday, May 31, 2024, at Bartley Memorial Chapel Plainview, Texas under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be at a later date at West Texas State Veterans Cemetery Lubbock, Texas.

Shawn was born on September 30, 1973, to Terry Lynn Jones and Sandra Kaye Gibson in Lockney, Texas.

Shawn was a military man. He served his country for 21 years, 7 months and 26 days before retiring from the Army.  While in the Army, he was stationed in Fort Bragg, NC and Fort Benning which is now Fort Moore, GA.  He was a Staff Sergeant, 82nd Airborne, Jump Master, and Paratrooper Instructor.  He served in Germany, two tours in Korea, and in the Iraq War.  He has earned numerous awards and certificates from the Army.

Shawn was a member of Edmonson Baptist Church.  He was an avid NASCAR and Dale Ernhart, Sr. fan.  He loved Texas Tech football and became a Kansas City Chiefs fan when Patrick Mahomes joined the NFL.  He collected guns and enjoyed anything military, he would talk about his service to anyone.

SSG Jones is survived by his parents: Terry Lynn Jones of Sherman, TX, and Sandra Kaye Linville of Plainview, TX.  His children: Gavin Jones and Lianna Jones of Plainview, TX.  His grandmother: Jewel Gibson of Plainview, TX.  His sisters: Valarie Cabello and husband Charlie of Amarillo, TX, and Jennifer Price of Kingman, AZ. His nieces: Allison Mireles and husband Caleb of Tulia, TX, Holley Poole and Trey Braxton of Plainview, TX.  Four aunts and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Shawn is preceded in death by his grandparents: Howard Gibson, F. G. and Pat Jones, and Joyce Jones. A bonus dad: Lloyd Linville, uncles: David Gibson and Michael Gibson, and cousin: Michael Gibson.
