Services for Ruthie Ann Smith Roberts, 71, of Lubbock, TX, will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, January 11, 2024 in the Plainview, TX First Baptist Church with Rev. Travis Hart and Lanny Voss, Officiating. A burial will follow at Plainview Cemetery. The family will gather to receive friends at Bartley Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Wednesday, January 10, 2024. Services are under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home, Plainview, TX.
Mrs. Roberts passed away into the arms of Jesus on Friday afternoon, January 5, 2024 in San Angelo, TX, after a battle with cancer. Ruthie was born May 27, 1952 in Morton, TX to Thomas Thurman and Ethel (Crow) Smith. She attended South Plains College and was a member of Baker Dozen musical group as a first soprano. She then went on to Baylor University where she graduated in 1974 with a degree in education. She married Randall Roberts on June 30, 1973, in Morton, TX. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past June. Following their marriage, they made their home in Plainview, TX and lived there until February of 2023 when they moved to Lubbock, TX. A devoted wife, she enriched her husband's life with unwavering love and support, creating a home filled with warmth and compassion. Her nurturing spirit extended to her cherished daughters and grandchildren, where her presence was a constant source of love and guidance. Ruthie was an educator and loved working with kids. She had a special place in her heart for children who struggled with learning differences. She was employed early in her career by Plainview ISD and then created her own business known as Solutions for Listening and Learning where she continued making an impact on children's lives. Ruthie had a love for hosting people and events in her home. She had a flare for decorating and entertaining. She loved preparing wonderful dishes and always made sure there was plenty for everyone. Ruthie was active in her community and had a servant's heart. She enjoyed singing and dancing with all her girls. She had a magical laugh and she was blessed with a beautiful voice that she credited as a gift from God. When she sang she sang from the spirit.
Known for her boundless generosity, Ruthie was a pillar of strength for friends and family alike. Her caring nature knew no bounds, and she would go to great lengths to help others. Whether offering a listening ear or providing a helping hand, she touched the lives of many with her genuine concern and compassion. Ruthie's legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, leaving behind a tapestry of love and kindness that will be forever cherished. Let us remember the extraordinary woman who enriched our lives with love, selflessness, and a heart that knew no bounds. May Ruthie's memory be a source of comfort and inspiration for us all.
Ruthie was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Thomas Curry Roberts; her three brothers, Thurman Gerald Smith, Hollis Royce Smith, and Bobby Carrol Smith and their wives; one sister, Wilma Marie Smith Stillwell and her husband; Two nieces, Leah Marcy Thomas and Amanda Darlene Stillwell Curry.
Ruthie is survived by her husband, Randall Roberts of Lubbock, TX, 2 daughters, Jessica Martinez; Rachel Beutz and husband James, all of Lubbock, TX. One sister, Wanda Thomas and husband Virgil of Searcy, Ark. She is survived by 6 granddaughters, Sky Roberts, Isabela and Chloe Elizabeth Martinez, Chloe Rose and Mila Beutz and a precious baby due in May. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces, and great-nephews.
