Obituary

Ruth Kincaid, 94, died at home in Plainview, Texas, on January 3, 2016. She was born in Dew, Freestone County, Texas on May 21, 1921 to Minnie Lee (Jones) and John Highie Lancaster, the youngest of their nine children. Funeral services will be held in Plainview at First United Methodist Church on Wednesday, January 6, at 11 a.m. officiated by Reverend Jeffrey Taylor. Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 9 in Woodlawn Garden of Memories Cemetery in Houston. Arrangements are under the supervision of Bartley Funeral Home in Plainview. Visitation will be at Bartley Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. Ruth was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church. She served every church with her whole heart including teaching 2 year-olds for over 20 years. She was a "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II working in Grand Prairie, Texas, building P-51 Mustangs and B-24 bombers. During that time she was very proud that she was able to buy a house for her parents, enabling her mother to have running water and indoor plumbing for the first time in her life. She was active in extension work serving in Home Demonstration Clubs and the Texas Extension Education Association. She held many jobs and was chosen Woman of the Year in 2011. Her favorite group was United Methodist Women where she was a member over 60 years. She served in every position including District President. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her eight sisters and brothers (Ray, Eula, Laura, Alvin, Carl, Ralph, Vida, and Travis), and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded by two beloved husbands, Zane Doyle and Thomas Kincaid. She is survived by four children: Susie Doyle Starnes and her husband Charles, Gena Doyle, Zane Doyle and wife Elizabeth, and Harold Kincaid and wife Kieran, five grandchildren, Chuck Starnes, Emily and Ian Charleton, Andrea and Ben Geiger, Kathryn and Matt Johnson, and Cady Kincaid, and four great grandchildren, Griffin and Fiona Geiger, and Joey and Mason Hahn. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church or United Methodist Women.
