A Funeral Mass for Ruben Chavez, 77, of Plainview, will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Bill Anton officiating. Interment will follow at Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Bartley Memorial Chapel. Mr. Chavez passed from this life on September 24, 2017 in Clarendon.

Ruben was born on May 12, 1939 in Zacatecas, Mexico to Encarnacion and Ricarda (Mendoza) Chavez. Ruben worked at Azteca and Missouri Beef where he was a meat processor. He loved music and singing.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Ismael Chavez of Mexico, Josie Moreno and husband Obed of Ontario, California, and Ricarda Hernandez and husband Antonio of Santa Rosa, California, eight brothers; Javier Chavez and wife Beatrice of Plainview, Gerardo Chavez of Amarillo, Roberto Chavez and wife Anita of Plainview, Jesus Chavez and wife Esparanza of Plainview, Pedro Chavez and wife Cruz of Denver, Colorado, Everino Chavez and wife Antonia of Mexico, Pablo Chavez and wife Guadalupe of Amarillo, two sisters; Amparo Cusillas and husband Javier of Hereford, and Maria Armendariz and husband Javier of Hereford and eight grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters; Sara De La Cruz and Carmen Lucio.
