Funeral services for Rogers Lee "RL" Southerland, 88, of the Mart/Mexia area, formerly of Plainview and Hale Center, will be held on Friday, October 5, 2018, 10:00 a.m. at Bartley Memorial Chapel in Plainview with Pastor Steve Rogers of Trinity Life Church officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home in Plainview. The family will receive friends for visitation at Bartley Funeral Home on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Mr. Southerland died September 23, 2018, at his daughter's home in Mart, TX. He was born December 13, 1929 in Lorenzo, Texas to George and Geneva Lois Southerland. He married Fleeta "Yvonne" Crabtree on July 22, 1955, in Lubbock. RL lived in the Mexia/Mart area since 2001. He was a Hale County resident for 44 years before moving to Mexia. He and Yvonne were the owners of R.L.'s Machine and Welding. He was a Texas PTA Life Member. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the United States Army from 1952-1954. Of all his accomplishments, he was most partial to his grandkids.
Survivors include one son, Kevin Southerland with husband Chris Bolinger of Denton, Texas; two daughters, Michelle Southerland with partner Ronnie Wade of Mart, Texas, and Traci Southerland of Plainview, Texas; two sisters, Jane Allen of Lubbock, Texas and Helen Walker of Cleburne, Texas; brother, George "Bub" Southerland of Lubbock; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; Yvonne Southerland, daughter; Rogaleeta Gayle Southerland, a son; Charles Southerland; a grandson; Bradley Southerland, and a great-grandson, Austin Lard.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Alvis, Eric Ellena, Steven Langston, Russell Langston, Nicholas Bolinger-Southerland, and Joshua Bolinger-Southerland.
