Ramona Escalante, 93, of Plainview, TX, passed from this life on May 4, 2019. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at Bartley Memorial Chapel located at Bartley Funeral Home in Plainview, Texas at 1:00 p.m. Friends and family are welcome to come by before the service for viewing.

Ramona was born on August 31, 1925 to Marcelino and Manulita (Tafolla) Mitchell in Mosquero, New Mexico. She married Natividad Escalante in 1947 in Greeley, Colorado. She worked for Furr's Restaurant and later worked at the cafeterias for Plainview ISD. Ramona enjoyed making quilts and reading scripture in her spare time. She was a very dedicated member of Gethsemane Baptist Church. Above all, she adored her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children; Rachel Barela of Plainview, Texas and Johnny Escalante and wife, Norma, of Plainview, Texas, four sisters; Erna Hernandez of Hereford, Texas, Pasquala Martinez of Espinola, New Mexico, Margret Eggert of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Victoria Sandoval of Albuquerque, New Mexico, four brothers; L.C. Mitchell of Lubbock, Texas, Benito Mitchell of Austin, Texas, Hilario Mitchell of Bakersfield, California and Samuel Mitchell of Mosquero, New Mexico.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Marcelino and Manulita (Tafolla) Mitchell, her husband, Natividad Escalante, four brothers and one sister.
