Obituary

Miriam (Mimi) Proctor Adams-Lockridge (83) earned her wings on May 4, 2023, in Lubbock, Texas. Mimi was born on March 4, 1940, in Detroit Michigan to Miriam Arnett Proctor and Edward Walker Proctor. Mimi grew up in Dallas, Texas, then attended school at the University of North Texas in Denton. Mimi met Swain Adams while studying at the University of North Texas. Mimi and Swain were married on December 18th, 1960. Mimi and Swain were married for 45 years. Mimi married Lee Lockridge on February 23, 2008.Mimi and Lee were married for 15 years. Mimi and Swain had four daughters Kara Adams of Lubbock, Texas, Dara Bell of Lubbock, Texas, Kammie Owens of Houston, Texas, Tamara Adams of Lubbock, Texas, and one son Quinton. (who preceded her in death) Mimi also had two stepdaughters Roxanne Carter of Amarillo ,Texas and Melanie Berry of Kansas City, Kansas.

Mimi is survived in death by 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and several step grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mimi was a kindhearted, generous woman who will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her community, and the children she felt called to protect and teach through her work in school bussing and driver's education. Mimi worked with children for 45 years as a school bus safety supervisor and Driver's Ed instructor. Mimi was involved in Girl Scouts in her youth and was actively involved in Girl Scouting as a leader for nearly 15 years. Mimi was proud of her work with young women as she felt she was making a difference in their lives.

Mimi was a devoted member of Aldersgate Church in Lubbock, Texas where she volunteered her time in various ministries. Mimi had a heart for others and enjoyed participating in a ministry that enabled her to utilize her talent for knitting. Mimi was proud of the sweaters she created through this ministry which were sent to orphaned children in Romania. Mimi had a passion for sewing, knitting, and painting and taught her children and grandchildren to appreciate these activities which she held so dear. Mimi also loved watching Hallmark channel 24 hours a day. A passion some of her family members did not share.

Mimi will be remembered as a beloved mother, teacher, friend, and mentor. It would be difficult to describe the deep sorrow that has been and will be experienced by her family and friends. Mimi devoted her entire life to leading by example. Mimi was kind, hard-working, industrious, generous, devoted, disciplined, and of noble character. Let us all live by her example.

A memorial service for Miriam Lockridge will be held at 1pm on Saturday June 10th, 2023 at Aldersgate Church located at 10306 Indiana Avenue Lubbock, Texas 79423. A gathering of friends and family will be held at Aldersgate Church directly following the service. Please contact Aldersgate Church if you would like to send plants, flowers or donations.
