Michael G. Henegar of Tulia, TX, passed away on April 11, 2025, in Amarillo, TX. Cremation arrangements are under the supervision of Bartley Funeral Home and Prairie View Crematory of Plainview, TX.
Michael was born on February 15, 1955, to Charles Lester Henegar and Barbara Joyce Henegar in Olton, TX. He married Debbie Henegar on November 17, 1990, at First Assembly in Plainview, TX.
Michael was a man of faith who grew up at First Assembly in Plainview and was a member of First Assembly in Tulia. He attended schools in Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School in 1974. Michael served on the board of the former Babe Ruth League, now known as the Optimist Baseball Program in Plainview, and was passionate about baseball. As a player, he excelled at first base, was a great hitter, and holds several hitting records. Alongside his son, he helped build Wayland Baptist University's Wilder Field baseball complex, where they constructed benches, installed light poles and hung the backstop net. He spent a lot of time at the ballpark. In addition to baseball, Michael enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, four-wheeling in the mountains, cooking outdoors, umpiring baseball, and refereeing basketball.
Michael is preceded in death by his son, Brandon Henegar; and his parents, Charles Lester Henegar and Barbara Joyce Henegar.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Debbie Henegar; his daughter-in-law, Karla Henegar Kemp (Brandon's widow) of Gainesville, TX; his sons, Jason Swift and wife Christy of Lubbock, TX, and Cody Swift and wife Misti of Amarillo, TX; his daughter, Tavie Guthrie and husband John of Garland, TX; his brother, Steve Henegar and wife Susan of College Station, TX; his grandchildren, Kyler Henegar and Charlee Henegar, Brendan Liles, Gage Swift, Keegan Swift and Kailee Brewer, Landry Swift and Luke Swift, and Jordan Mount and Aaron Mount ; and his service companion and friend, Ranger.
