Melvina "Penny"
Hawkins
January 31, 1929 – June 2, 2021
Melvina "Penny" Hawkins (nee Sisemore), passed away peacefully at home and in the presence of her
family on June 2, 2021, in Orangevale, California. Mrs. Hawkins was born in Atlanta, Georgia on January
31, 1929. Known to her family and friends as Penny, Mrs. Hawkins was a longtime resident of Texas
moving to California with her family in 1982 where she said she felt like she was "always on vacation".
Penny loved to "go for a drive" – especially if there were gardens or flowers involved.
Mrs. Hawkins had a very long career as a valued legal secretary and was a proud member of the
Daughters of the Revolution, but her greatest joy was her family of 5 children, 7 grandchildren and 4
great grandchildren. A Southern Baptist all her life, Mrs. Hawkins loved the Lord and passed that love on
to her children.
Mrs. Hawkins was the beloved wife of Wayne A. Hawkins for 57 years before his passing in 2007. She is
survived by her children Carmen Martin, Cathy Johnson, Steven Hawkins, Cheryl Creek and Celia Bernal
and her youngest sibling, Lorene Bellyue. Grandmother of Michelle Hawkins, Peter Johnson, Mack
Martin, Adam Johnson, Austin Creek, Mark Johnson and Ryan Bernal and great grandmother of Katrina
Johnson, Korbin Johnson, Cooper Creek and Ava Creek, Mrs. Hawkins will be greatly missed.
Friends and family are invited for visitation Friday, June 11 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Bartley Funeral
Home located at 1200 S. Interstate Road, Plainview, Texas to be followed by interment and graveside
