Funeral Mass for Matthew A. Ybarra, 9, of Plainview, will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father George Poonely officiating. Interment will follow at Plainview Cemetery under the personal care of Bartley Funeral Home. A Rosary will be held on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 6:00 pm at Bartley Memorial Chapel. Matthew passed from this life on August 17, 2017 in Plainview.
Matthew was born on October 20,2007 in Lubbock Texas by Charisma Ybarra and Matthew Reid. He attended Thunderbird Elementary in Plainview. He would have been in the Gifted and Talented program in the Fourth grade. Matthew had a strong passion for math, he tested in the 97 th percentile in the State of Texas on his STAAR test as well as being commended on his Reading. He received the Merit P Award, Best Reader Award, and he was an A Honor Roll student for the entire year. He only missed one day of school this past school year. He was a math wizard. At such an early age Matthew knew the importance of education, he had high hopes and dreams to one day attend his favorite University, UT. Matthew excelled in every activity from playing baseball to winning academic achievement contests at his school. He had the kind of personality that would light up the whole room the moment he stepped in. Matthew touched the hearts of so many around him, he had the compassion and warm spirit to comfort you when needed or make you cry from laughing. He was an admiral and extraordinary young man that will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He loved all his family, especially his grandmothers, sister, and his parents.
Those left to cherish his memory are his parents; Charisma Ybarra of Plainview and Matthew Reid of Lubbock, his grandmothers; Diana Ybarra of Plainview, Melinda Timms of Lubbock, sister; Zaylynn Ybarra, uncle; Chris Reid, great-grandparents; Ester Soto, Joe Ybarra, and Bobbie Crisp; cousins, and everyone that admired his strength, and his personality.
He is preceded in death by his great-great aunt; Mary Ybarra, great-great-great grandmother; Janie F. Pina and great-granddad; Joe Soto,
