Funeral services for Mary Lahoma Whitaker, 94, of Plainview are Tuesday, 2:00 pm at Bartley Memorial Chapel with Greg Moreland and Michael Wetzel officiating. Interment will follow at Plainview Memorial Park with v isitation at 1:00 pm at Bartley Funeral Home. Mary Lahoma Whitaker went to be with her heavenly father on Friday, Aug 4, 2017. She died peacefully at her residence in Plainview. She was born on May 31, 1923 in Grayson County, Texas to Clyde Oundry Philips and Rebecca Ann McDonald. She married James R. Whitaker, Jr. (Junior) on September 22, 1941 in Van Alstyne, Texas. Soon after marriage they moved to Plainview, Texas. They owned full service gas stations in three different locations in Plainview. They worked very hard and were well known for their customer service. Their last station was Jr's full-service Texaco station at 16 th and Quincy Ave. After her husband's death in 1985 she became a Walmart associate, working there for 28 years. She retired at the age of 92. She was loved and adored by all of her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. She is survived by three children, Myrna Moreland, with husband Gerald, of Lubbock, Mary Wetzel of Plainview, and Rick Whitaker of Lubbock, seven grandchildren, Gregg Moreland with wife Gerrie, Michelle Bartlett with husband Bart, Mike Wetzel, with wife Jayme, Tim Wetzel with wife Vanessa, Tina Garces with husband Bobby, Adam Whitaker and Matthew Whitaker. Seventeen great-grandchildren; Kelsey Sanderson with husband James, Kolt Moreland, Nicole Bartlett, Alyssa Bartlett, Mariah Wetzel, Tasha Elledge, Sierra Wetzel, Haylee Wetzel, Jaxxon Wetzel, Luke Wetzel, Saydee Wetzel, Amree Elledge, T.J. Wetzel, Tyler Wetzel, Trevor Wetzel, Alex Garces, Zack Garces, and Mali Garces and one great-great grandson, Slate Sanderson, one sister Clydene Hill of Paris, Texas, two brothers, Dalton Philips of Batesville, Arkansas, and David Philips of Melissa, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband, Junior Whitaker, infant Ronald James Whitaker and son Jackie Clyde Whitaker. She was a devoted Christian and loved the Lord with all her heart. She laid the foundation and left a strong legacy for all her family to follow.
