Obituary

Graveside services for Mary Kathryn "Kathy" Taylor, 84 of Lubbock will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013 in Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday May 9 at St. Lukes United Methodist Church in Lubbock with Rev. Johnny Robertson officiating. Services are under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home of Plainview.
She died on Sunday, May 5, 2013 in Lubbock. She was born on March 24, 1929 in Fort Worth to Jesse L. and Myrtle Willson.
She graduated from Paschal High School with high honors and was a member of the Vagabond Players, girls choir and the school newspaper staff. She lived in Fort Worth until she went away to college. She earned a BA degree from the University of North Texas in Denton and a ME degree from Texas Tech University. At North Texas she was a member of Alpha Chi, Kappa Delta Pi honor societies, College Players and a social sorority as well as other organizations. In 1957 she married Bill Taylor, who for 20 years was associated with KCBD radio and television stations. She taught for brief periods in Denton and Waco, Texas and for 34 years was a teacher for Lubbock Independent School District. She was a member of St. Lukes United Methodist Church where she often taught Sunday School and for a time was a member of the choir. She was a Chapter Facilitator for Theos, an international organization for widowed people. She was also a member of Pierian Sorosis and Heritage Study Clubs and the Lubbocks Womens Club. For a time she was a volunteer with the Auxillary of what was then Methodist Hospital. Kathy loved old hymns and was familiar with the words and music to many of them.
She is survived by 2 Sons, Rev. Jeff Taylor and wife Karen of Plainview and Larry Taylor and wife Mari of Albuquerque, N.M.; 1 Daughter, Joey Burns and husband Glenn of Plano; 8 Grandchildren, Sean, Travis and Landon Taylor, David and Erica Prismantis and Chase, Ryne and Rylie Burns; 1 Nephew, Bob and Sue Stanley of Lubbock; 2 Great Nieces, Shannon and Brandon Baker and Erin and AJ Bagwell; 1 Great Great Niece, Kaylyn Baker; 1 Great Great Nephew, Carter Baker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; both parents; her sister, Lucille Anderson; her niece, Kay Stanley and in 2009 her grandson, Adam.
