On July 8, 2016, Marie Miller Jackson, 90, received her call to enter into eternal rest.
Funeral services for Marie Miller Jackson of Kress will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 15th, 2016 at Bartley Memorial Chapel with Rev. James Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home. A Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Marie was born on May 12, 1926, in Cameron, Milam County, TX, to Robert and Mary Miller. Marie attended school in Cameron. She married the love of her life, Roosevelt Jackson, Sr., in 1946. They moved to Anton, TX in 1950, and then from Anton to Kress, TX in 1954.
Marie joined church at an early age under the leadership of Reverend T.M. Sparks. Later she united with Mediterranean Baptist Church in Tulia, TX. In 1965, she joined United Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Walter Griffin, where she remained faithful until her health began to decline.
Marie worked as a nurse's aide in Tulia, TX. She was a devoted mother to her children. She loved to celebrate the holidays with all of her family because she loved cooking for them. Everyone always loved her peach cobbler and blackberry cobbler.
Marie leaves to cherish her memories four sons, James Jackson, Roosevelt Jackson, Jr., Johnny Jackson, all of Amarillo, and Roy Gene Jackson of Plainview; a daughter, Lillian Marie Sullivan of Canyon, a sister, Ophelia Rosemond of San Antonio, TX; 21 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 daughter, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
