Ludmela Bode was born in New York, New York in 1929 to Natalie and Alexander Goloobeff. An only child, she was raised in New York, residing in the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn, having moved with her mother and family during the Depression era to find work where they could. As a child, she enjoyed roller skating (with the metal wheels), the movies, walking with her friends and riding the subway (only a nickel!)

She had three children. Her daughter, Natalie, born in 1957, from Grand Gorge, New York, predeceased Ludmela in 2019. Her daughter Irene was born in 1960, and son William was born in 1965.
Ludmela had worked for several employers during her working career, including Woolworth's, (In NYC as well as Glen Cove, Long Island, New York), Lady Lyn also in Glen Cove, and head cook for the Town of Huntington Senior Citizen Nutrition Center where she retired.
After her retirement, Ludmela resided in her own home in Huntington until 2017, and then shared a residence with her children, first with daughter Natalie, her son, William, and then her daughter Irene and her husband, David.
Ludmela, affectionately known by her nickname Ludy, by her friends and former co-workers, enjoyed collecting antiques, including old children's books, Victorian calendars, and loved flowers like African Violets and amaryllises. She also greatly enjoyed her grandchildren and watching Antiques Roadshow. Ludmela is survived by her daughter, Irene Lance, from Lubbock, Texas, and William Bode, of Rensselaer, New York.
