Obituary

Linda Machelle (Cork) Torres went to her heavenly home on Tuesday July 18, 2023 Cremation is under the care of Bartley Funeral Home.

Linda was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was known for her thoughtfulness, strength, and kindness.

Linda was the youngest of the family, born November 6, 1970, to Lonnie and Joyce Cork of Plainview. She grew up and attended school in Plainview. In 1995 she proudly earned her GED and took classes at Wayland.

She married the love of her life John Torres. In 1996 Linda earned her Certified Occupancy Specialist license and became the manager of Bethesda Manor apartments for over 25 years. Linda helped numerous elderly, handicapped, and disabled people over the years with low income housing. She loved her job and she was diligent in making sure Bethesda Manor a great place for those in need of housing. She was a great advocate for the disadvantaged, disabled and people in need. She gave from her heart in everything she did.

Linda was in a car accident when she was 15 that left her in a wheelchair. Her disability never stopped her from achieving any goal she set for herself. She never complained or made excuses for being confined to a wheelchair. Linda would say her greatest achievement was having and raising her sons Jeremiah and Josiah whom she lived for. Her goal in life was to raise her two sons, watch them grow up, and graduate. She achieved that goal and so much more! Linda enjoyed spending time with her family, her dog Spicy and watching her beloved Dallas Cowboys.

In the mid 90s Linda started The Broadway Cruise on Sunday nights where car clubs, low riders, and others could cruise up and down Broadway Street. Linda enjoyed participating and bringing people together to share the joy of cruising down Broadway.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents Lonnie and Joyce Cork and one sister Marlene (Sheeba Sneed) Cork.

She is survived by her two sons Jeremiah and Josiah Torres, their father John Torres and her fur baby Spicy whom she adored. Three sisters; Sherry Bryant of Visalia California, Carol Cork of Lubbock Texas, and Gayle Walker of Plainview. One brother, Mike Cork of Elgin, Texas as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be no services at this time. Linda will be greatly missed by family, friends, and all who knew her.
