Funeral services for Janie Ruth Barnes Ridlehuber, 84, of Lubbock will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at First Christian Church in Plainview, TX, with Dr. Max Browning officiating. Services will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2011, at 7:00 PM at Clayton Kay Vaughan Funeral Home in Itasca, TX, with Diane Barnes officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-7 PM on Tuesday, September 27, at Bartley Funeral Home in Plainview, and from 5-6:30 PM on Thursday, September 29, immediately preceding the service at Clayton Kay Vaughan Funeral Home in Itasca. She died September 23, 2011, in Lubbock, TX, at Covenant Health System. She was born April 13,1927 in Itasca, TX. She married Eugene (Gene) Ridlehuber on October 29, 1948 in Itasca, TX at First Presbyterian Church. Janie was born to Charlie and Della Roberts Barnes on April 13, 1927. She graduated from Itasca High School in 1944 and from Hillsboro Junior College with an Associate degree in business in 1946. She also attended Texas Tech University in the late 1980s. Janie married Eugene (Gene) Ridlehuber in Itasca on October 29, 1948. They lived in Silverton and Lubbock before moving to Plainview in 1964 to open Bearings and Industrial Supplies, Inc., which they owned until 1992. During Gene's tenure as Mayor of Plainview, Janie worked side-by-side with him for the benefit of Plainview. She worked for Plainview ISD as a substitute teacher and also worked at Wayland Baptist University in the Financial Aid office. A loyal supporter of her children and their activities, she participated in various organizations including PTA, Band Parents and Rainbow Girls. Janie was Past Worthy Matron of the Plainview chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star as well as serving on the board for the Plainview Rape Crisis Center. She was named a Distinguished Alumnus of Itasca High School and was the president of the Wampus Cat Ex-Student Association for several years. She and Gene moved to Lubbock in 2009 to Elmbrook Estates where she was appointed as an ambassador to assist new residents in their transition to assisted living. Janie was a member of First Christian Church in Plainview. Survivors include her three daughters, Joy Ridlehuber of Carrollton; Janet McCaleb and husband, Dickey, of Plainview; and Sara Holmes of Dallas. Her beloved grandchildren who knew her as Mama Janie, Lacey Foster of Mt. Pleasant and her three children, Kilah, Faith and Harley; Joshua Foster of Dallas; Adrienne McCaleb of Canyon; and Aaryn McCaleb of Plainview. A niece, Nancy Barnes of Ft. Worth; a nephew, Charles Ray Barnes and wife Diane of Itasca. Cherished nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends. Janie was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Gene; parents, Charlie and Della Roberts Barnes; sister, Edna Earl Barnes; brothers, Charles and Robert Barnes. The family will be at the McCaleb home at 2908 W. 17th Street in Plainview. In celebration of Janie's life, the family requests that her favorite color of red be worn to the services.
