James Earl
Young
July 23, 1957 – August 6, 2023
Visitation services will be held Friday, August 11, 2023 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Funeral services for James E. Young will be held, Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 10:00 am at Bartley Memorial Chapel.
James Earl Young was born on July 23, 1957, in Plainview, Texas to Mal and Sudie Young. He was called to his heavenly home August 6, 2023.
James met the love of his life, Marilyn, during a coffee visit at the Kettle, and the two were later married on January 21, 2006. Over the years, Marilyn often asked to have a pet, and James finally agreed to a kitten. The two welcomed Blu into their home in March. James was smitten over their new fur-baby, often bringing her when visiting family. The two attended Littlefield Primitive Baptist Church, where they became official members January 22, 2006. Serving the Lord and hearing His word was important to James. Sundays were spent with fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, as well as many weekends through the year, at church meetings across Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, and Missouri. James looked forward to fellowship with friends and loved ones following services, often found gathered with others in the shade talking about the Lord.
James was a simple man. He could be found visiting with friends over coffee at NuGriddle, and Friday evening meals with loved ones at Carlitos. Weekends were important to James, because those days were spent with family; James was happiest when surrounded by his nieces and nephews. The occasional chair nap was a must, since no one has matched energy to the kids. His laugh will be missed, especially in times of picking and playing on each other. James never shied from trying new food or recipes made at home. A home cooked meal was the best, and he couldn't be convinced otherwise.
James is survived by his wife, Marilyn Young, granddaughter Kyda Avila, sister Donna Moreno, sister-in-law Denna and husband Scott Bass, sister-in-law Sharon and husband Matt Williams, sister-in-law Cindy and husband David Bass, and sister-in-law Charlotte Harris. Among the many nieces and nephews, Brandon and wife Meggan Bass, Krystal Lopez, Misty and husband Scotty Simmons, Gracie Lopez, Kaden Lopez, Kynzlee Lopez, Jakob Bass, Baileah Bass, Abel Pineda, Nicholas Moreno, Johnny Moreno, and Suellen Bustamante.
He is preceded in death by his parents Mal and Sudie Young, brother Robert Young, son Blake Gabel, and brother-in-law Kenneth Harris.
