Ira Lee Roy of Abernathy- Funeral Services for Ira Lee Roy, 72 will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 18, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Hale Center with Pastor A. Quron Hairston officiating. Burial will follow in Hale Center cemetery under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home of Plainview. A wake will be held from 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday, August 17 at Emmanuel church of God in Christ in Plainview TX.
Ira Lee Roy passed away on Wednesday, August 10 in Lubbock.
She was born July 3, 1944 in Little River County, Foreman, Arkansas to Augustus and Martha Lee French Compton. She graduated in 1962 from the Chatham Colored High School in Hale Center TX. She worked for the Hale Center Senior Citizens and Hi-Plains hospital. She was a faithful member of Emmanuel Church of God in Christ.
She is survived by her soul mate Spurgeon Young and her three children Carol Sheff (Anthony) of North Carolina ; Irene Roy of Copperas Cove TX; Stan Roy (Christy) of Abernathy TX. Three granddaughters, Samara Sheff, Elaria Roy and Marlee Roy.
Two sisters, Izora Shaw of Texarkana; Urail Mackey of Plainview TX. A sister friend Minnie Collins of Lubbock TX. Five brothers, Ivory Compton of Dallas TX; Jackie Compton of Plainview TX; J.R. Compton of Lubbock TX; Gordon Compton of Fort Worth TX; Jimmy Compton of Rochester NY.
A host of nieces, nephews and family that will miss her dearly. Also we would like to acknowledge her church family at Emmanuel Church; The Fab Five and a host of friends.
She is preceded in death by her Parents Augusta and Marth Lee French Compton; A sister Idella Compton; and three brothers, Willie Compton; Hosia Lee Compton and Augusta Compton Jr.
