Hortencia was born on May 2, 1942 in Praxedis G. Guerrero, Chihuahua-Mexico to R afael and Concepcion (Nevarez) Rascon. She married Andres Mijares on August 13, 1962 in Praxedis G. Guerrero, Chihuahua-Mexico. From this union they had five children; Ignacio "Nacho", Mario, Micaela, Lupe and Manuel.

Hortencia was an easy-going person. She enjoyed going to garage sales, collecting antiques, drinking coffee with her friends, being outdoors, and spending time with her grandchildren. Her favorite past time was watching soccer and basketball.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children; Ignacio "Nacho" Mijares and wife Areli of Plainview, Mario Andres Mijares Rascon of Juarez, Mexico, Micaela Mijares Rodriguez of Plainview, and Lupe Lara of Plainview, her siblings; Maruca Rascon of Juarez, Mexico, Francisca Rodriguez of Kress, Emma Palacios of El Paso, and Gloria Rascon of El Paso, and numerous grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband; Andres Mijares, her parents; Rafael and Concepcion, siblings; Consuelo Rascon, Manuel Rascon, Rafael Rascon and Alicia Villalobos, and her infant son; Manuel Mijares.
