Evert was born on June 8, 1942, to Evert T. and Frances Elkins Turnbough in Portales, New Mexico where he also grew up and received his education. He married the love of his life, Jennifer Sue Garrison, on July 3, 1964. They had two wonderful sons. Evert was a retired farm manager in Seed Research for Ring Around, Asgrow, and Monsanto. He was also very artistic, imaginative, witty, and enjoyed spinning yarn to anyone who would listen. He loved being outdoors and was an impressive woodworker. Evert had a green thumb and could grow practically anything.
