Ernest R. Patty, Jr. was born on August 18, 1934, to Ernest R. Patty, Sr. and Martha Evangeline Lowe at their home on a farm east of Plainview, Texas. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Ann Patty on January 2, 1953, in Juarez, Mexico, they were married until her passing in 2000. Pop was a member of Second & Beech Church of Christ. He was also a sponsor and supporter of the Bar-None Rodeo Drill Team of which his daughters and granddaughters are members and riders.
Pop Patty served his country with the National Guard. He was known for his admiration and love for his family and dogs, Milo and Otis. Pop loved to take the grandkids and dogs to a back road in the country, drop them off and let them run to the end of the road where he would pick them back up. He was known for his pickup with stock racks for his dogs and grandkids. His shop was not far from the Humane Society, so he acquired many dogs over the years and loved them dearly. At one time he had 8 dogs, all rescues. Pop even cooked chicken for the dogs in addition to buying dog food. Pop was a jack of all trades, an auto mechanic, small engine mechanic, even at 90 years old he still worked on engines. One man told him "He was the Finest Ford Mechanic in Town." He also had a strong sweet tooth Blue Bell ice cream and popcorn were some of his favorite meals. Pop will be remembered as having the best sense of humor, quick whit, his amazing storytelling ability, loyalty, work ethic, and love for the community. Pop enjoyed caring for his lawn, as well as his family and friends, he was "mowing for the elderly" up until recently. He was always ready for a quick comeback to anything said, and he even had nicknames for family, animals and vehicles. One grandson had a pickup bigger than a hippopotamus so he called it the, Mopotimus. Truly one of a kind.
