Funeral services for Earnest Shivers Jr., 76 of Plainview will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday March 29, 2013 at New Jerusalem Baptist Church with Pastor H.K Thomas Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Plainview Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M Thursday at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.

He died on Friday, March 22, 2013 in Lubbock. He was born on March 30, 1936 in Caldwell, TX to Clara Ayers and Earnest Shivers Sr. He married Johnnie Mae Petty on December 9, 1963 in Plainview. He was a minister for 29 years at New Jerusalem Baptist Church. He graduated from Teals Prairie High School where he excelled in football, basketball and track. He was known by his nicknames E.J., Chico, Popslick and Tiptoe because of his speed.

Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Mae Shivers of Plainview; four daughters, Jacqueline Leanet Shivers, Cynthia Thean Shivers, Mary Beth Shivers and Martha Marie Shivers all of Lubbock; two sons, Melvin Carl Shivers of Plainview and Rodney Louis Shivers of Dodge City, KS; 16 Grandchildren and
1 Great Grandchild.

He was preceded in death by: his father, Earnest Shivers Sr.; his mother, Clara Shivers; his grandmother, Rosetta Ayers; his grandfather, Walter Shivers; two sisters, Delores Reid and Gloria.
