Funeral services for Don E. Newsome, 78 of Plainview will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 24 at Bartley Memorial Chapel with Rev. Robert Malcolm officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Newsome died Tuesday, June 21, 2016 in Lubbock. Don married Bettie Bolton on August 10, 1957 in Abernathy. He worked for Hastey Construction here in Plainview and taught Sunday school at Colonial Baptist Church where he was a member. He is survived by his wife, Bettie Newsome of Plainview; 1 son, Billie Newsome and wife Barbara of Plainview; 1 daughter, Debbi Barcheers and husband Lynn of Hale Center; 1 brother, Justin Newsome of Tacoma, Wash.; 3 sisters, Loretta Hastey and husband Maurice of Plainview, Frances Wheeler and husband Wade of Wolfforth and Gail Jarthan of Slaton. He is preceded in death by both parents; 6 brothers, Charles, Max, Doyle, Jerry, Dale and David Ray Newsome; 1 sister, Carolyn Newsome and 1 grandson, Lin Dale Hodges.
