Donnie Eugene "Don" Henderson
Don Henderson passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 in the comfort of his home with family members and a dear family friend at his side. Don's legacy is 73 years, 7 months and 28 days of living and loving those who he cherished in life.
Donnie Eugene Henderson was born on Monday, February 12, 1951 in Lubbock, Texas to Eddie Dalton Henderson and Mary Belle (Dungan) Henderson. He attended Lubbock Schools, and graduated from Lubbock High School in 1970. Don was employed and spent his career working in maintenance for Lubbock Independent School District, at Smylie Wilson Jr. High and at times served at Overton Elementary, Stewart Elementary, and Coronado High School. Don was united in marriage to Rhonda Brock on Tuesday, July 31, 1984 at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, Texas. Don's life revolved around his family, which brought him immeasurable joy.
Don is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dorothy Lawson; his twin brothers, Eddie Henderson & Freddie Henderson and his nephews, Rodney Barton and Mark Garster. His first wife, Twila Gail Barton.
Those left to cherish Don's legacy include: his wife, Rhonda Henderson; his daughters, Kimberly Brock and spouse Jimmy Mohling and Donna Blackwell and husband Marvin Blackwell Jr., his son, Brandon Beecham and wife Monee; He was Paw-Paw to his eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is survived by sisters Denise Ward (Jerry) and DeeDee Harwell (Gene) and brother Eddie Meryl Henderson (Patty); Don is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as many special friends, including Shawn Hughes.
A memorial service honoring the life of Don will be held on Saturday, November 2nd, 2024, at 3:00p.m at Golden Corral 5117 Loop 289 Lubbock, Texas. A balloon release will follow the memorial dinner at Willie McCool Academy (Formerly, Smylie Wilson Junior High) 4402 31st St Lubbock, Tx 79410. The family requests those attending the memorial service please wear something blue, or Dallas Cowboys attire. Honorary Pallbearers will be Noah Rodriguez, Matthew Madrid, Xavior Blackwell, Marvin Blackwell Jr., Josh Barton, Ray Barton, Wes Garster and Bryan McDaniel. All arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Bartley Funeral Home of Plainview.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff Hospice of Lubbock for the loving care of Don in his final days as well as Dr. Kerry Hendershot who was his personal physician and friend.
