February 18, 1934 – September 30, 2021
Dennis Gene King, 87, of Tulia, departed this earthly world and entered heaven's gates on September 30, 2021. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Tulia, TX, on Monday, October 4, 2021, with Rev. Charles Davenport assisted by, John Gillespie, officiating.
Gene was born on February 18, 1934, in Plainview, TX to Harley and Moruca (McDonald) King. He was born and raised in Plainview until moving to Tulia in 1952. He graduated from Tulia High School in 1954. Gene married Carol Edwards on December 18, 1954.
Gene's family had a small farm in Muncy, TX where he worked for his father at an early age. He continued farming throughout his life until he retired in 1986. He continued to be active in the farming community. He earned his pilot's license in the early 60's and learned to fly under James Miller. He was a charter member of the Tulia Flying Club. In 1987, Gene bought a lot in South Fork, Colorado where he built a 2,100 square foot two story home from the ground up. His children and grandkids thoroughly enjoyed the home he built. He also worked as a handyman around town helping those who needed it and sometimes doing it out of the kindness of his heart.
He was a part of the Texas Baptist Men's Camp Builders where he did repairs for youth camps. Gene and Carol worked for various RV resorts where Carol was the activity director and Gene was lovingly known as the "honey-do man". They also did work camping across the U.S. where his love for wood carving began. He enjoyed and taught wood carving as they traveled the U.S making beautiful and intricate pieces of art. Gene also was involved in missionary trips to Brazil where he helped build churches.
Gene was a very active member of First Baptist Church in Tulia. He also was a member of the masonic lodge for a number years.
Gene was known for his wonderful sense of humor. He was always joking around and cutting up. He enjoyed and grew up dancing at an early age. He was a devout Christian man who loved the Lord and instilled his beliefs to his family. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.
Those left to cherish his memory is his wife; Carol King of Tulia, TX, his children; Jana Cannon and husband, Steve, of Plainview and Kevin King and wife, Jennifer, of Plainview, his grandchildren; Patrick King, Samuel King, Shawn Cannon, Christopher Perez, and Jonathan Cannon, his great-grandchildren; Colten Cannon, Anna Cannon, Grant Cannon, Hunter Perez, Caden Perez, Finley Cannon, Rowan Cannon, and Fallon Cannon.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents; Harley and Moruca (McDonald) King, a brother; Austin King, and sisters; Zendola Yoes and LaTrella Flowers.
The family ask that in lieu of flowers please donate to First Baptist Church special projects fund or your favorite charity.
