Obituary

After a lengthy illness, Chancellor Lee Tate, affectionately known as "Chance", went to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on January 2, 2026, one day before his 54th birthday.

Chancellor was born on January 3, 1972, in Lubbock, Texas, to Evan Tate and Darlene Jones Tate. He was an only child and the pride and greatest joy of his mother.

Growing up Chance played baseball and loved music.  He was a percussionist for his junior high and high school bands. After high school, he became a local musician, singing in various rock bands where he made many friends. He was also an avid sports fan; he especially loved wrestling, as well as Texas Tech and Dallas Cowboy football. Chance became a skilled craftsman in trim carpentry, taking pride in his work and attention to detail. There are many fine homes in Lubbock that display his artistry and skill.

Chance loved and was loved by his wonderful family: mom, dad, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was known for his sense of humor and the joy he found in making other people laugh. He never failed to get a laugh from his family when he answered his phone in a hilarious voice of one of the many characters he portrayed. Some of his fondest memories were spending holidays with his mom's family and going on camping and fishing trips with his dad.

Chance was a member of Southcrest Baptist Church where he was baptized in 2024. He never failed to express his love and sincere gratitude to friends and family who had stood beside him during the toughest times of his life.

He was preceded in death by his father, Evan Tate, and is survived by his mother, Darlene Tate.

There will be no funeral services, but a celebration of life is being planned for a time yet to be determined.
