Obituary

Bill Baker, 73, of Kress, departed this earthly world and entered heaven's gates on January 13, 2021. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Bartley Memorial Chapel at 2p.m. Interment will follow at Kress Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday, January 18, 2021 from 6-8 p.m. at Bartley Funeral Home.

Bill Baker was born on April 7, 1947 in Silverton, Texas to Kelsey and Dorothy Baker. He attended Burn Plains in Floydada and finished his high school education at Silverton High School. Bill left school early to work on the farm to support his family and later became a successful farmer. He farmed for 20 years, he then worked for Walmart D.C for 5 years, and then worked for the City of Plainview for 15 years before retiring to enjoy life with his family and friends.

Bill met his beloved wife, Lerline Mathis, and they united in marriage on April 24th, 1982 in Lockney, Texas. In this union 4 kids were born: Chantal Marshall Baker, Nathan Baker, Natalie Johnson, and Natasha Williams.

Bill loved going fishing, traveling, hunting, and especially his farming. He was well known for his cooking, his bbq, and being a well-dressed man. He enjoyed attending stock shows and football games. Bill was a devoted Christian and faith servant of the Lord. He always had a tremendous passion for helping people. He leaves a great legacy that will live forever through all of us.

Bill Baker was the most hardworking and honest man you would ever come across. Dedicated, genuine, and one-of-a-kind. He was an amazing husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend.

Those left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 42 years, Lerline Baker of Kress, his children; Chantal Marshall (Earl) of Plainview, Nathan Baker of Amarillo, Natalie Johnson and husband, Tyson, of Kress, and Natasha Williams and husband, Jeremy, of Plainview, his siblings; Erma Mitchell of Amarillo, Kelsie Baker Jr. of Amarillo, Ann Baker of Amarillo, and Jerry Baker of Silverton.

Bill was blessed with 14 grandchildren; Deondray, Davontae, Lala, Jaleel, Nadia, Zoey, Jaikylie, Samarayh, Yasmine, Devion, Janiah Baker-Carr, Jarayia "Red" Baker, and Alora and Alina Plunkett, and a grand-dog; Rock T Johnson. He leaves behind and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

He is preceded in death by both parents; Kelsie Sr. and Dorothy Baker, father-in-law; John Mathis, brothers; Charlie and Eddie Baker, a sister; Janice Baker, a niece; La Toya Baker, nephews; Gean Polley, Trey Braxton Mathis, and Autry Baker-Polley.
