Funeral services for Bessie Lee Jones, 65 of Plainview will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at Bartley Memorial Chapel with C.L. Davis officiating. Burial will be in Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home. A wake will be held on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. She passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2012 in Lubbock. She was born on October 29, 1946 in Temple, Texas to Otis and Carrie Lee Taylor. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jones, Sr.; 1 son, Robert Jones, Jr.; 2 daughters, Sharlotte and Gwendolyn Jones; 1 sister, Brenda J. Cherry; and 4 brothers, Essie Lee, Clinton, Clifford and James Thornton. She married Robert Jones on August 29, 1961 in Plainview. He died January 8, 1988. She graduated from Wayland Baptist University. She had worked for Wayland, Levi Strauss, and various insurance companies in Plainview. She grew up Church of Christ and was currently a member of the First Assembly of God Church.
Mrs. Jones' life and memories are survived, cherished and loved by 2 sons, Rickey Jones and wife Phoebe and Torlan L. Jones all of Plainview; 3 daughters, Rhonda Jones of Carrollton, TX, Dessie Gibson and husband Kennie of Rochester, N.Y. and Tonia N. Jones of San Diego, CA; 4 brothers, Willie Charles Thornton of Dallas, Limus Thornton of Ovilla, TX, Clyde Taylor and Bobby Taylor both of Temple, TX; 5 sisters, Earnestine Barnes of Hale Center, Elizabeth, Mary, Beverly and Peggy Taylor all of Temple, TX; 19 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
