A vibrant, caring soul departed this earth peacefully on January 23, 2023 surrounded by family.

Barbara Jean Allgood-Brookes was born to John and Florine Allgood on January 4, 1930, in Windom Center, Ontario, Canada.  Mother was the fifth child of twelve children and the first to be born in Canada.  Mother's parents moved from Virginia to Canada to continue tobacco farming and instilled in their children hard work, integrity and high values.

Mother met Anthony William Brookes, a WWII vet from Pontypridd, Wales, at an Arthur Murray Dance Studio in London, Ontario, both training to be dance instructors in 1948 and married in 1951 and had their first child, Pamela in 1952.  In 1953, the young family moved to Jacksonville, Florida to open an Arthur Murray Dance Studio and while there had Michael in 1954 and Timothy in 1956.  Shortly after, the growing family moved to Lubbock, Texas and opened the Arthur Murray Dance Studio on Main Street.  Valerie was born in 1958 and Melanie in 1962, the last to complete the family.

We now picture mother dancing with Daddy, in a blue indigo and turquoise chiffon dress with matching heels and her hair in a French Roll, moving ever so gracefully across polished hardwood floor smiling, as she is in her element.

The angels are in for some competition.

Daddy passed in 2015, survivors include children Pamela, Michael (Patty), Timothy, Valerie all of Lubbock and Melanie (Guy) of New Zealand.  Also 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, sisters Maxine Hominuk of Ontario and Roxie Hicks of British Columbia, Canada.
