Funeral services for A.C. Ellis, 78 of Plainview will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Hamlin, Texas. Burial will follow in Hamlin East Cemetery under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A.C. Ellis was born December 28, 1934 to Velma Gibson and Mitchell Ellis in Fairfield, TX. His family moved to Hamlin, TX in 1946 where he attended Oscar Depriest School. On October 28, 1956, he married Leola "Bebaby" Coleman. He moved his family to Plainview, TX in 1964 where they remained their entire lives. He was employed by the Hamby Co. for 48 years as a welder. He was a member of New Fellowship Baptist Church in Plainview. He was well known throughout the community and loved playing dominos with anyone who would sit at the table. He enjoyed fishing with his brother and friends.
A.C. leaves a wife Betty and eight children, sons, Alfred Charles Ellis, Jr. of Albuquerque, N.M., Ricky Ellis of Lubbock, TX, James Ellis of Plainview, TX, and Milton Ellis of Claytonville, TX, daughters, Charlene Bullocks of Topeka, KS, Shirley Barr of Albuquerque, N.M., Mary Williams of Fayetteville, N.C., Linda Ellis of Garden City, KS, one brother, Willie D. Ellis of Abilene, TX, one sister, Laverne English of Englewood, Calif., 30 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. With a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He also leaves a special friend, Casper.
His mother, Velma Willis; father, Mitchell Ellis; daughter, Thelma Jo; wife Leola and brother Howard Lee Ellis preceded him in death.
