Obituary

With heartfelt sorrow and deep faith, we announce that Abundio Melchor Madrid went home to be with our Lord on June 9, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 76.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 14th, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Bartley Memorial Chapel.  Arrangements are under the supervision of Bartley Funeral Home.

Born on March 14, 1949, in Stanton, Texas, Abundio lived most of his life in Lubbock, Texas. He was a devoted husband to Diane, with whom he shared 55 blessed years of marriage, a loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and cherished friend.

Abundio faithfully served in his career at Fields & Company and later as a maintenance mechanic at Dynamic Foods until his retirement, embodying the virtues of diligence and humility.

Beyond work and family, Abundio had a deep love for the game of softball. As an adult, he spent many joyful years playing with friends and family, cherishing both the game and the time together. His competitive spirit, laughter on the field, and sportsmanship left lasting memories for all who played alongside him.

He is survived by his daughter, Laurie Hahn, and her husband, Wayne Hahn, of Georgetown; his son, Timothy Madrid of Lubbock; and his two brothers, Joe Madrid and Nieves Madrid Jr. He was a proud grandfather to Ashton Urrea, Noah Rodriguez, Matthew Madrid, and Abbiegayle Madrid, and a loving great-grandfather to two precious great-grandchildren. His family was the center of his heart and the blessing of his life.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Nieves and Maria Madrid, and his brother, Jesse Madrid, whom he now joyfully reunites with in the presence of the Lord.

A passionate Dallas Cowboys fan, Abundio's enthusiasm for life and the game was a reflection of his joyful spirit.

We take comfort in the promise of eternal life, knowing that Abundio now rests in God's loving arms, free from pain and surrounded by peace.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Bartley Funeral Home in Plainview, Texas.

Abundio will be remembered for his quiet strength, generous heart, and unwavering faith. His legacy of love, kindness, and devotion lives on in the hearts of his family and all who were blessed to know him.

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." — Matthew 5:4
